Recently I was performing a re-install of Mac OS X Server on one of our test Xserves.
While using Server Assistant to perform the remote software setup, the process hung during the verification of the
serial number. After force quiting the Server Assistant, subsequent attempts to setup the server would fail because
the remote server was still reporting to Server Assistant that a remote setup was still in progress and would not
allow me to continue where I left off. Even after a reboot, Server Assistant would not allow the setup to continue.
In order to recitfy this issue, I ssh'd into the remote server and found that in /System/Library/ServerSetup/ there was
a file called .RemoteSetupInProcess .
Deleting this file allowed Server Assitant to once again perform a remote setup on the server..
Open Directory schema for 10.3.9/10.4.x formatted for SunONE server:
Ever wanted to host a full-featured OD LDAP domain on a SunONE LDAP server? If your manager insists on turning on schema-checking you're going to have a whale of a fun time trying to get the schema accepted by SunONE. Luckily for you, I've already been through that pain...
I haven't found many sites that make mention of Apple's Server Assistant application. For the amount of tedious work it can save the average administrator, I felt it was worth mentioning and help draw attention to it for others.
