Pharos UniPRINT requires additional server configuration to function correctly in Mac OS X (10.2/10.3)
Pharos UniPRINT configuration
- Contact Pharos Support and request the Macintosh OS X package. Included
in this package are a number of important files: A Pop-up client, a
revised Pharos LPD server, and a registry patch
- Connect to the machine hosting the Pharos UniPRINT server and stop
the Pharos LPD service. Install the new Pharos executable, pslpd.exe.
Double check the version number, it should be build 1688 or later.
- Stop the Pharos UniPRINT LPD service, and then start the Pharos LPD
Service.
OS X Client configuration
- Popup Configuration:
The Pharos UniPRINT system allows for the installation of a
"popup" service. This service supports tagging print jobs with extra information
under Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows Me/ 98/ 95
and Macintosh. A window pops up to allow the collection of extra information about
a print job. This data collection takes place immediately after the job is spooled
from the client workstation. The information is then forwarded to the Pharos Server.
If your Installation of Pharos does not use this service, you do
not need to install the "Popup.pkg" file from Pharos.
- Open the Print Center utility. Select the "IP Printing" option from
the pulldown menu.
At this screen, a number of fields need to be entered. In the Printer's address,
enter the UniPRINT server name hosting the Pharos LPD Server. If the machine
hosting the print queues is named UniPRINT.your.institution.edu, one would type
this into the "Printer's Address" box.
- Next, uncheck the "Use default queue on server" and enter the printer
queue that you are printing to. The queue is most commonly the "hold"
queue on the UniPRINT server. If the queue is "HP 4100", enter this
in the "Queue Name" box.
- The Printer Model does not have to be selected. You may however,
manually choose the printer model. Note that the advanced features
may or may not be controlled by the UniPRINT server depending on how
the UniPRINT server is configured.
