Panther marks for Apple a ground breaking step forward in the field
of cross-platform directory integration. Rather than relying on generic
support for standards-based directory access, Apple has specifically
architected Mac OS X to integrate with Active Directory in much the same
way a Windows client would. We'll examine that architecture- first from
a client-side perspective, and then in the context of Server Integration,
providing Mac OS X Server Services to Active Directory principals in
a single sign-on infrastructure. Also covered is cross-realm authentication
and MCX integration- providing Mac OS X managed client settings to Active
Directory users. In all cases, our focus will be minimization of impact
on existing infrastructures.
Philip Rinehart, Support Specialist, and Jason Prell, Systems Programmer
will talk about lessons learned in their Active Directory implementations.
Jason will talk about their use of the LDAPv3 implementation at the University
of Iowa. Philip will talk about the implementation of the Active Directory
plug-in at Yale, with some of the lessons learned and problems encountered.
Each will provide scenarios as to which methods might work better for
your own deployment.
