Learn about Apple Software Restore (ASR), Apple's command line tool
for cloning and restoring system disk images. This tool is used for initial
installation of the operating system and application files.
Jim Kateley, the engineering manager from Apple who oversees Apple Software
Restore and Disk Copy, will present an overview of what ASR is and what
it can do. Two case studies of asr implementation will follow the asr
overview.
Justin Elliott, Penn State University, will present on the application
he wrote named "PSU Blast Image Config". This application uses
ASR to restore disk images and performs other steps necessary to secure
and prepare a Macintosh for a lab environment.
Alisandra Brewer, Sonoma State University, will present how she uses
Carbon Copy Cloner to create system disk images and BootCD to create
a bootable Mac OS X CD that then restores a disk image over the network
via ASR.
