Session: NetBoot in Depth
Presenter: Eric Zelenka, Apple Computer
Moderator: Peter Hoffman, Higher Education Marketing Manager, Apple Computer
Broadcast Date: Friday, October 25, 2002

Description: In this WebCast, you'll find out how all of the clients on your network can start up from a single disk image on your server, rather than system software on hard disk drives. You will hear how NetBoot will let you create a standard desktop configuration and use it on every computer in a workgroup, classroom, lab, or network.

With NetBoot, you don't have to worry about the state of any individual computer once someone is finished using it. The system will be restored to its pristine state as soon as the computer is restarted. So you can quickly recover from altered settings, tampering, and any network-introduced viruses. Besides simplifying client support, NetBoot has the added advantage of giving users a consistent computing experience on any Mac, anywhere on the network.

NetBoot is perfect for classroom environments, where several different students might use the same computer at different times of the day, and where multiple desktop systems need to be configured identically ? and repurposed quickly. By enabling NetBoot on all desktop systems, you can allow students to log in on any Mac and mount their home directories from the network.
