System Mgmt - Mastering Radmind & RsyncX
Come attend a presentation at MacWORLD
SF 2004, on Mac OS X File System maintenance with two members of the macosxlabs
project, Kevin Boyd of University of Michigan; and Richard Glaser of University
of Utah.
Here is a chance to get an in-depth look at tools, tips, and techniques for
managing files in OSX. We will focus on two lab management tools - Radmind
and RsyncX. These tools can be used in a variety of scenarios: Initial installs
of loadsets onto machines; protecting the integrity of loadsets in a lab or
enterprise environment; deploying applications across the network to multiple
machines; managing user backups of personal files either locally or across
the network. Questions will be fielded as they arise - this is an opportunity
to share your thoughts and experiences in this area as well.ww

Away -- Is OS X Really Secure?
Come attend a presentation at MacWORLD
SF 2004, on Mac OS X Security with a member of the macosxlabs project, Philip
Rinehart of Yale University; and Jeff "Wolverine" Greene of University of Colorado
at Boulder.
With the advent of many attacks against Windows machines, is Macintosh OS X really
secure? In this session, we will examine the default security of an OS X machine.
Is it resistant to network attacks, and what types of local exploits can be used
to compromise a machine? An overview, and demonstration of techniques to make
an OS X box more secure, and how to do basic forensic analysis will be presented.
Attendees will learn: What OS X (including Panther) is vulnerable to, and how
to I fix it; Why physical security is important and what forensic tools are available
to analyze a compromised machine.
